What an astonishing success for our first major themed event! The Small World Prom was a true throwback to those high-school days, and a perfect way to celebrate graduation. All the official photos are available NOW to download in HQ!
What started out as a fun idea back in mid-2023 slowly grew into one of the most elaborate and ambitious events that Small World has ever hosted. Although Prom is a famous rite-of-passage and iconic symbol of adolescence overseas, the majority of Japanese students never get the opportunity to experience it, despite being bombarded by the concept through television and movies. This means that for a lot of kids, Prom is a dream that they’ll never see come true.
We knew that if we were gonna do this, we had to do it right.
This meant that we had to recreate all the cliches, the decorations, the dress-code, the performances… every aspect of the concept had to be as people imagined it would be. And I think we did a pretty good job!
I can not understate how incredible everyone looked in their Prom outfits, I really have to applaud you all for your commitment to the theme. I’m so glad you put the work in to look your best, and I doubt we’ll ever get the opportunity to see the community dressed up like this again. I think my favourite part of the night was when everyone got the chance to strut on the stage and showcase their outfits for the cameras. True paparazzi, showbiz moment.
Performances, on point. Leaf Motif and Keigo captured the sound of high-school perfectly and kept the crowd on their toes throughout the night. Incredible dance moves from RAD CLUB, what a show! And Gustavo Avyla, what a pro! From the ballads for the slow dances to the surprise transition to the closing featuring Leaf Motif, the guy can really get the crowd going.
Finally, I gotta congratulate the stars of the night, Prom King ABNER and Prom Queen SHINO! Though the results were a little… unconventional, I think they were the right choices and I don’t think anyone could have picked better royalty for this event.
Thank you to Midtown BBQ for preparing some quality food for us, to Jim, Joshua and Zico for these stellar photos, and to RAD CLUB, Gustavo and Leaf Motif for the performances. I’d also like to give a special thank you to all of the support staff for helping us put this huge project together – that’s to Yoshino, Shino, Emi, Amina, Gia, Lam, Linh, Thania, Autumn and Shivam. Without their support, we couldn’t have done this. And I would also like to say a special thanks to Keigo, who has always been by my side to make these projects happen. I hope he knows how grateful I am for him.
Hopefully sometime in the future we’ll have some more ambitious projects for you! I hope you enjoy participating in these events as much as we do making them. Please do continue to support us! Share the photos! Tell your friends about what we do! Help us grow! Small World needs YOU to continue doing what we do best. Until the next one, happy graduation.
