Sunday Pick Me Up (November 14, 2021)

Sunday Pick Me Up November 14 2021

This weekend we did another Sunday Pick Me Up in Sakae! 75 people and we gathered over 77kg of trash in one hour! Woo hoo!

And this was after two other trash collection groups had cleaned the area

This month, our Eco-Habit is…

♻ Shop Secondhand! ♻

Let’s talk about the garment industry and fast fashion in particular.

It’s wasteful!

Globally, 80 BILLION garments are produced each year, and according to studies, the average person only wears about 20% of their clothes! 3 out of 5 fast fashion garments end up in a landfill. That’s 48 billion garments every year! It’s terrible for the environment!
Polyester production uses 70 million barrels of oil every year, and a polyester garment takes 200 years to biodegrade. Water usage isn’t well-regulated for garment manufacturers. One fifth of water pollution comes from garment manufacturing, and is responsible for 35% of the microplastics in the ocean.

So, what do we do?
– Buy only what you need.
– Mend your clothes whenever possible.
– Buy garments second-hand.

Time for one of Kaja‘s trademark puns…

“Goodbye fast fashion! Let’s make fast fashion, fashOUT.”
“See you, GU! UniqNO! Sayonara, ZARA!”

See you at the next Sunday Pick Me Up on December 12!
