We just kicked off our brand new food event series at MEKENI near Ikeda Koen. It was an amazing experience to see everyone enjoy hometown favourites from the Philippines. Here’s what was on the menu!
Beef Caldereta: A hearty stew made with tender beef, tomato sauce, and vegetables like potatoes and bell peppers.
Sinigang Soup: A sour and savory soup made with tamarind broth and a variety of meats and vegetables.
Beef Kare Kare: A rich and flavorful stew made with oxtail or beef and a variety of vegetables in a peanut sauce.
Filipino Chop Suey: A stir-fry dish with a medley of vegetables and meat in a light sauce.
Pork Sisig: A spicy and savory dish made with chopped pork belly and sizzling on a hot plate with garlic, onions, and chili peppers.
Inihaw Liempo: Grilled pork belly marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, garlic, and vinegar.
This was a completely new experience for most of our guests, and based on the conversations I had with everyone, I’d say we’ve converted a few into Filipino food enthusiasts!
For me, the best way to learn about a different culture is through their food. The stories, the flavours, and the history – it’s all on your plate. As your host, I plan to take you on a delectable journey to different restaurants throughout the city, so you can experience the world one dish at a time. Not only will you get to sample authentic cuisine, but you’ll also have the chance to learn about diverse cultures and make some new friends.
It’s exciting to think about the potential for future events, and we can’t wait to see where this culinary journey takes us next!
