Sunday Pick Me Up (August 13, 2023)

It looks like we’re in the season of event anniversaries! This month marks the fourth year of Sunday Pick Me Up!

SPMU has changed a lot since we first started! It stands as one of our longest-running events, having witnessed multiple versions thanks to the distinct touch of various co-organisers. We’ve had Eco-Habits, Post-Pickup Picnics, yoga sessions and shared lunches. At our biggest event, we welcomed over 100 participants, collectively amassing over 2.5 tons of trash over the years. Looking back, I’m so proud to be a part of this initiative dedicated to keeping Nagoya clean. My hope is that our events have not only connected you with new friends but also deepened your bond with Nagoya and heightened your environmental awareness.

Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of SPMU over the years. Navigating this event’s challenges wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing co-organisers. A special shout-out to Kanae, the brain behind SPMU’s conception in 2019. Though she’s now based in Australia, she’s in Nagoya until September’s end. If you know her, be sure to show your appreciation if you see her!

Have you attended Sunday Pick Me Up yet? You should! It’s one of our core events, and one of our most wholesome. Many people who attend this event have met their best friends here, and it’s shaped their entire Japan experience. I strongly believe that everyone should try it just once. It’s something really special.

We’re back this Sunday in Kanayama! Please join us! I’m looking forward to seeing you there.
